UONostalgia Shard(s) – December 2019

Last update to this post was December 22.

Note 1: It had been a few years and the server was running fine so, it is now on new hardware now as of December 11th. UONostalgia still shuts down and restarts at 05:00 Eastern every day WITHOUT WARNING IN GAME. There is a period before shutdown during which progress is not saved. Remember to check your local time and get to a “safe place”, or find an advantage, before that occurs (04:30 Eastern, daily, at earliest).

Note 2: No evidence has been found that any player, or players, have activated and competed a Champion Spawn yet. Standard player searches yield that no character has a skill over 100. It is unknown if this is a player initiative issue or a bug. If you complete a Champion Spawn or if you find that it does not work as intended please leave a comment or email ultimanostalgia@gmail.com.

Note 3: We have been using CrossUO almost exclusively. It is extremely useful to login and have access to assist features (you have to check the beta box to have the assist features). The map is ok; not great. The UOSteam map option is more accurate. The following is the login information that is most reliable for both CrossUO and UOSteam:

Shard: shard.uonostalgia.com
Port: 2593

Note 4: UONostalgia started up a Time of Legends (ToL) server on December 16th. THIS SERVER USES THE MOST RECENT CLIENT AND IS AT PORT 2594 NOT 2593.
This server has:
Enhanced client support.
Time of Legends expansion.
2 accounts per IP.
2 houses per account.
3000 skill cap.
350 stat cap (max 150 per / 175 enhanced).
The Ultima Store uses gold not Sovereigns.

Note 4.1 (ToL server notes): Added a vendor with Recall Mark and Gate Travel scrolls east of Luna Gate. NPC vendor changes like this and others are ready for update to server.

This post will be updated throughout the month of December 2019.

UO Outlands – An Ultima Online Shard

A free shard for your consideration found at: https://uooutlands.com/

“UO Outlands is a free-to-play Ultima Online shard set in the T2A era which launched on Ocober 27, 2018. Our mission from the onset has been to create a version of Ultima Online which enhances every aspect of gameplay, creating a shard which we believe emulates how Ultima Online should have always been had it stayed the course.”

“As a development team, our main goal from the beginning has been to create a place for you, our players, to play for the long term. We know from experience that there is nothing more frustrating than investing your limited time and energy into a server only to have it closed on you, or the population move on.”

Medium sized server, more than ten years of costume scripting and updating, balanced economy friendly community and professional admin to player attitude. You are welcome to try it and if you have found your new home you are welcome to stay.

Wear them during the fight to gain experience and upon reaching your next level spend a point improving: melee attributes, magic attributes, character stats, resistance etc.. Max item level is level 10, but using special scrolls you can bump it to whopping level 125. We also have some weapon’s coatings: Napalm Coating, Fire coating, Mana Leech Coating and the list goes on. You can have 3 accounts per IP connection and we allow the use of macros. We do not have a skill cap and PvP is available only in Felucca (be careful wandering around in that area).

About UONostalgia.com

UONostalgia.com is a website for Ultima Online nostalgic content and includes a customized server (a free to play shard called UONostalgia). The introduction video below will briefly explain the beginnings of Ultima Online and the creation of the shards.

What is Ultima Online?
Ultima Online (UO) is a fantasy role-playing game set in the Ultima universe. It is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). It’s a world where your character can craft their own weapons, armor, equipment, as well as build a house and furniture to fill it with. You can explore the darkest of dungeons or sail across the world on a heavy warship. It is a sandbox world for your character to live and exist in.

What is a customized server / free shard?
Fans of Ultima Online reverse-engineered the game to produce emulators of the original servers. With emulation server software it is possible to customize most aspects of the game and support large numbers of concurrent players on a single server. Customization and player activities on each server make them all different from one another. The resulting play environments are called free shards and are independent from the official subscription servers.

Ultima Online Expansions

These are the Ultima Online expansions that have been released over the years. Not every expansion, nor all of the features of such, are available on the UONostalgia shard.

Ultima Online: The Second Age (1998)Ultima Online: The Second Age (1998)
The Second Age was the first expansion for the Ultima Online MMORPG. The expansion added several features to the game, including a new region called the Lost Lands, new creatures, and support for player-built cities. The expansion is popularly referred to as “T2A,” (The Second Age). The Second Age was developed by Origin Systems and published by Electronic Arts. It was the last Ultima Online expansion designed by Raph Koster.

Ultima Online: Renaissance (2000)Ultima Online: Renaissance (2000)
Doubled the size of the world, adding a second copy. Prior to its release, the expansion was said to double the amount of room in the game, but that it would not use a duplicate of the map, rather it would be adding new content. It was later found in the previews that Renaissance simply added a mirror world under different rules. The worlds were called Felucca and Trammel, after the two moons in Ultima’s Britannia world. The Trammel world did not allow player killing and was geared towards fighting monsters. Felucca adopted a darker, more foreboding look and kept its player vs player roots.

Ultima Online: Third Dawn (2001)Ultima Online: Third Dawn (2001)
This expansion introduced 3D models to the Ultima Online MMORPG franchise. While the game still maintained its scaled, overhead view, the character animation was much smoother with the introduction of the Ultima Online: Kingdom Reborn client (a more sophisticated 3D Ultima Online client), the Third Dawn client is obsolete, and no longer usable.

Lord Blackthorne's Revenge (2002)Lord Blackthorne’s Revenge (2002)
This was the first of the two “darker” Ultima Online MMORPG expansions (the  second being Ultima Online: Age of Shadows). The game featured creatures designed by Todd McFarlane (creator of Spawn in comics). The story is about the return of Lord Blackthorn, the corrupt noble who usurped the throne of Lord British in Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny. Included in the game box was a comic drawn by McFarlane.

Ultima Online: Age of Shadows (2003)Ultima Online: Age of Shadows (2003)
Brought the landmass of Malas with space for new housing, two new character classes (Paladin and Necromancer) and the ability to customize house designs. The item system was reworked with this expansion. Armor resistance was split into five types and many new properties that affected game play were added to weaponry. As good equipment became vital, this expansion also brought with it item insurance. Subscriptions reached a peak of over 250,000 accounts following the release.

Ultima Online: Samurai Empire (2004)Ultima Online: Samurai Empire (2004)
Brought ancient Japanese mythology and folklore to the game, two new classes (Ninja and Samurai) and a new area to explore, the Tokuno Islands. The new class skills shifted the balance of player vs. player combat away from mage dominance.

Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss (2009)Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss (2009)
Featured a new playable race, the Gargoyle; additional play areas; and three new skills: imbuing, throwing and mysticism. Stygian Abyss also featured significant upgrades to the Kingdom Reborn client, which has been renamed to the Enhanced Client. The original client was still supported. Many of these features are not available on the UONostalgia shard.

Ultima Online: Time of Legends (2015)Ultima Online: Time of Legends (2015)
New Areas: Shadowguard and Valley of Eodon; two new champion spawns; сompleting the virtue system; lots of new items; new skill-masteries; updates to classic housing. Many of these features are not available on the UONostalgia shard.
